Dr. Holt has practiced ophthalmology in Portland since 1975. He is a Cataract & Refractive Surgeon who specializes in Cataract Surgery, Lens Implants and LASIK Surgery in Maine. A graduate of Bates College and Harvard Medical School, he completed his residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he also was a research fellow and a Heed Fellow in graduate ophthalmology. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. When away from the office, he serves as a member of the Bates College and Andover Newton Theological School trustees and is treasurer of his church. He enjoys running, swimming and hiking, spends time tending his garden and vineyard, and values time spent at home with his family.

Dr. Holt comments on becoming an ophthalmologist:

“I was a third-year medical student at Harvard, not liking it much, when I rotated through the ophthalmology clinic. I found I loved it! The wonderful high-tech instruments and procedures fit with my strong science background and were fun to use. Most patients were happy with the results of eye surgery, and there wasn’t much late-night emergency duty! It was a perfect specialty for me then, and still is, and for the same reasons. The technology and surgery outcomes have just gotten better and better over the years.”
